Preparative TLC plates have adsorbent layers thicker than the 250 micron layers normally used for analytical separations. Thus, preparative plates can be used for separation of larger quantities of materials. The loading capacity for a given degree of sample component resolution increases roughly as the square root of the increased adsorbent layer thickness. In preparative TLC, materials to be separated are often applied as long streaks rather than spots. The TLC plates contain UV254 fluorescent indicator. This analytical extra hard layer is bound to a glass support. It has a thickness of 250um and dimensions of 20x20cm. There are 25 plates per pack. The layer has an outstanding hardness and is abrasion resistant due to an optimized binder system. The plate can be easily labeled with a lead pencil for clear identification. There is an increased separation efficiency due to an optimized particle size distribution. The UV254 fluorescent indicator has an increased brilliance and a low-noise background which results in a high suitability for trace analyses.
